Abdera Therapeutics is seeking an experienced CMC analytical chemist at the senior scientist level or higher, who has experience with both small and large molecule mass spectrometry and other related techniques such as HPLC and spectroscopy. The ideal candidate will support chemistry/radiochemistry, biologics and CMC teams to adapt the Abdera platform by analyzing proteins, bioconjugates, linkers and precursors, formulations, and other samples as required. This position will involve creative and intelligently guided development of analytical methodology for aiding both R&D and QA/QC in their efforts to create the best-in-class radio-conjugates for novel cancer therapies.
 
Principal Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize analytical methods for small and large molecules, primarily focused on mass spectrometry, HPLCs and work with protein conjugates.
  • Develops and runs proteins characterization assays such as HPLC based assays (MS and UV), Capillary electrophoresis (CE-SDS), affinity measurement assays.
  • Operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of state-of-the-art mass spectrometers, HPLCs and other analytical equipment and inventory of analytical reagents
  • Perform routine analytical testing to support formulation and process development.
  • Review and transfer of analytical methods as needed for Abdera’s CMC team to enable process development / manufacturing.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot analytical or manufacturing issues as they arise; design and execute laboratory experiments as needed
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality Control, Regulatory, and Process Development to ensure successful execution of CMC strategy
  • Maintain laboratory safety and compliance in accordance with internal procedures and external regulations
  • Author and review analytical protocols, technical reports, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Qualifications, Education & Experience
  • PhD in analytical, biochemistry, physical or a related chemistry field.
  • 5+ years of CMC experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry; or, Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 4+ years overall experience in CMC development of analytical/physical chemistry methods, including mass spectrometry and spectroscopy methods
  • Experience working with advanced high-resolution mass spectrometry is required.
  • Experience with characterization of proteins and conjugate is a must, small-molecules (linker technology) and peptides is a plus.
Skills and Abilities
  • Adhere to the relevant regulations and requirements for the safe handling of radioactive materials.
  • Familiarity with FDA/EMA/ICH guidelines.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of a variety of analytical techniques for analyzing small and large molecules.
  • Familiarity with advanced high-resolution mass spectrometry instruments and methods; familiarity and extensive hands-on experience with Thermo Orbitrap instruments and Chromeleon software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with HPLC-UV/VIS and other spectroscopic techniques
  • Observational and analytical skills as well as problem-solving skills.
  • Trouble-shooting skills of advanced analytical instrumentation, incl. high-resolution mass spectrometers, HPLC and other related equipment.
  • Excellent IT skills including specialized drug research software is a plus.
  • Ability to plan and execute complex scientific projects. Strong analytical and trouble shooting skills.
  • Ability to handle more than one project at a time, multitasking, effective communicator and collaborative with different teams.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy weighing up to 50 lbs.
